1. Tutuklanmış (immobilize edilmiş) biyomoleküller Oligonükleotid, antikor, reseptör ve enzim gibi biyomoleküllerin, biyosensör yapımı ve biyokatalistler ve biyomimetik yüzeyler oluşturulması için çeşitli yüzeylere bağlanması. Yeni tutuklama matrislerinin geliştirilmesi, tutuklama yöteminin optimizastonu ve tutuklanan bitomolekülün aktivitesinin incelenmesi. 2. Biyoaktif moleküllerin kontrollü salımı Kontrollü salım biyoaktif moleküllerin (ilaç ve pestisit gibi) ortamdaki derişimini daha iyi kontrol etmek için kullanılır. Aktif ajanın bu şekilde çevresiyle etkileşimi azaltılarak ortamdaki yarı ömrününde uzatılması sağlanabilir. Ayrıca, kanser ilaçları gibi ilaçların hedeflenmeyen hücrelere zarari da azaltılabilr. Polimerik malzemelerden kontrollü salım sistemleri oluşturulması, salım hızının polimer özellikleri, yapım koşulları ve çevresel faktörlere göre değişiminin incelenmesi bu konunun içindeki başlıklardan bazılarıdır. 3. Yapay lipid membranlar: karakterizasyonları ve membran proteini araştırmalarında kullanımları Katı yüzeylere bağlanan yapay lipid membranlar, lipozomlar gibi diğer membran modellerinin aksine, yüzeye hassas tekniklerin (Atomic Force Spectroscopy, Surface Plasmon Resonance Spectroscopy, Quartz Crystal Microbalance) uygulamasına olanak verirler. Membran proteinlerinin fonksiyonel inkorporasyonunu mümkün kılarak, inhibitörler, ilaçlar gibi birçok maddenin protein aktivitesine etkisini araştırmaya olanak sağlarlar.
